Today I began school at El Centro Communidad de las Lenguas (CCL). The school is about a 2 mile walk through the streets of Morelia. It is long, but exercise is a little harder without Dixon, so I do not mind. From 8 to 12 this morning, my instructor and I discussed the vocabulary of the major anatomical systems. Fortunately, a lot of medical terms are latin based so the translation is fairly easy. We also walked to the medical area of the city. I saw one of the hospitals. It is not fancy whatsoever, but I guess it does the job.
I also found out today that there are 3 other students living in the same house. They were just gone for the weekend. I´ve met two of them so far. They are both really nice, and I´m hoping we might be able to go to the discoteca or a cafe together, but we´ll see.
The culture here is much different than the United States. I begin my day with breakfast at 7 and then return to the house around 2 for the amuerzo (lunch). Then, almost everything in the town shuts down for two hours as the people take a siesta. Everything reopens around 5. We eat the cena, which is a lighter meal, around 8. It is a little wierd, but I am definitely catching up on sleep and reading.
I also forgot to mention that I went to the catholic church with my family. It was a a crazy experience. First of all, I have never been to catholic church so all the talking back and forth was strange to me. Secondly, I understood almost nothing of what the pastor was saying, so I made sure to watch the people around me for certain cues to sit or stand or shake hands. I hope in another 3 months that I might know what the pastor is saying.
I posted some pictures of the city. Like I said it´s beautiful. The one of the rooftops is the view from the roof of my house. I also posted a pic of my uncle and me at the airport. This city is very photogenic. I have not even shown you the best parts yet! I am waiting for some better pics. The cathedrals and plazas are gorgeous. I will try to have a picture of it for next time, but no promises. I miss you all!
Here are three videos. The first two are from the LA road trip. The third is in my house in Morelia.
